About Sandy Springs, GA

While Sandy Springs stands as an independent city, it lies in the shadows of Atlanta to the south, offering a suburban feel with a contemporary edge. As a relatively youthful city, it continues to evolve with ongoing development projects. The cost of living here ranks notably higher, with a cost of living index at 137 compared to the national average of 100, while the median home price nearly triples the state average. However, when it comes to average rent, Sandy Springs aligns more closely with the statewide figures.

Walking, Biking, or Driving

Given its sprawling layout, a car is almost a necessity in Sandy Springs. Though the city provides three bus routes and access to MARTA's red line with four local stations, the convenience of personal vehicles remains central to daily life. The city's numerous parks, playgrounds, and nature trails are excellent for recreational activities but are generally more suited for planned outings than daily commuting. Whether you're driving or using public transportation, getting around Sandy Springs is relatively straightforward, ensuring you can easily explore all that this vibrant community has to offer.

Community Life

Sandy Springs sets itself apart with an unconventional urban landscape. Its downtown area proudly showcases the natural springs that inspired its name, and the iconic Northside Tower serves as a prominent landmark. The city comprises diverse neighborhoods, each offering a mix of residences, shops, restaurants, offices, and commercial centers. Notably, it's home to Georgia's largest medical center and shares the expansive Perimeter Center development with neighboring Dunwoody.

A Glimpse Into History

Despite its modern facade, Sandy Springs boasts a rich historical tapestry; the oldest house in Sandy Springs dates back to 1842, and its journey to independence is a testament to its enduring spirit. In 1950, the Georgia state legislature thwarted Atlanta's annexation attempt, keeping Sandy Springs under county jurisdiction for several decades. Full cityhood was achieved in 2005 when residents voted overwhelmingly in favor of incorporation, marking a pivotal moment in its history.
